Academic Esports

Learners in Academic Esports are introduced to the many facets of the competitive gaming industry known more commonly as the Esports Industry. They explore the role that video games play in their daily lives, and what career opportunities are available to them based upon those interests and skills. Through group discussions, role play, project creation, research, and case study analysis, learners examine the many intertwined stakeholder and career pathways that make up the Esports Industry. In addition to navigating the business side of Esports, learners also examine the history of video games and their journey from the basements of college computer labs, to one of  the biggest cultural phenomena of the 21st century. Those interested will be exposed to the rigorous physical, mental, and emotional health routines of professional players, and how to become impactful and healthy digital citizens in this growing industry.

Esports Club

Passionate and competitive EHS students have the opportunity to become part of the Edison Eagles Esports Club, a proud competitor in the Garden State Esports League. The Edison Eagles Esports Club competes statewide with other New Jersey high schools in a variety of competitive titles from Super Smash Brothers and League of Legends, to Overwatch 2 and Valorant. Contrary to popular belief, this does not merely entail students just playing games in their downtime. Team members meet regularly after school with their teammates to participate in strategy sessions, scrimmages, team building exercises, and to host events for non-competitive team members. Each week, the E3 Esports Club hosts open play sessions in the E3 Arena for any EHS student interested in playing games and building social bonds in a state of the art Esports facility. Students also can be shoutcaster, commentators, or video production assistants for the E3 Esports Club's live streams weekly during their competitive matches.
